Nesquehoning council censures member

Nesquehoning officials unanimously voted to formally disapprove of another councilman’s actions following an incident at May’s council meeting.

On Monday, during borough council’s monthly meeting, the board voted to censure Councilman George Sabol III, as a result of his expletive-laced outburst last month.

At the time, Sabol’s tone turned heated after council began discussing no parking along one borough street. He cursed at Councilman Lou Paul and then at council as a whole before walking out of the meeting.

Sabol was not at Monday’s meeting.

Before the censure vote, Paul asked that the May minutes be tabled because they did not include Sabol’s outburst.

“His actions were inappropriate, and unacceptable,” Paul said, noting that he wants that reflected in the minutes.

The motion to table the minutes and add the incident into the record was then approved.

Paul then made the second motion to censure Sabol by borough council for his “inappropriate, unacceptable behavior” at the May 26 meeting. Councilman Michael Radocha seconded the motion.

Councilwoman Rosemary Porembo asked for clarification what censuring a councilman would mean.

Solicitor Robert Yurchak said that censuring is a public disapproval, saying council did not approve of his actions; but it doesn’t stop him from talking at a meeting in the future.

The motion passed with no council members present voting against the action.
