Fire damages nightclub at Sunny Rest Resort

A nightclub at a resort in Franklin Township was damaged after fire broke out Sunday afternoon.

Township fire Chief Lynn Diehl said the incident occurred at 4:20 p.m. when a fire started in a storage area in the lower level of the “Flashers” night club of Sunny Rest Resort.

“We don’t know exactly what started it,” Diehl said. “The fire itself was basically contained to one room; there was smoke and water damage throughout,”

Diehl said everyone was out, and there were no injuries to firefighters.

“We did not call the fire marshal since the damage was slight compared to what could have happened,” he said.

Diehl said the fire remains under investigation.

He said firefighters had the incident under control within about a half-hour, though he added they were on scene for about an hour venting smoke and cleaning up.

Diehl said also assisting at the scene were the Parryville Fire Department, Bowmanstown Fire Department, and Palmerton Ambulance.

“We made a good hit, and we were able to stop it,” he said. “We did a lot of overhaul; we wanted to make sure we got everything.”
