Polk supervisors take steps for rescue plan funds

The Polk Township Supervisors revisited the topic of the American Rescue Plan at a special meeting Thursday.

“So, we’ve been talking about this, and I think we are prepared,” said Supervisors’ Chairman Brian Ahner.

Three things are required for municipalities to be eligible for the coronavirus relief funds, and the Polk Township Supervisors approved all the requirements at the meeting.

A motion was made to hire Zelenkofske Axelrod LLC to advise the township of the best way to use the funds they receive.

“I think we should hire the consultant throughout the whole process,” Ahner said. Supervisors Carl Heckman and Vice Chairman Michael Hurley agreed.

Next was the approval of a separate bank account for the funds.

“For this year, we need a separate bank account just to hold that money in,” Ahner said. They chose First Northern Bank and Trust in Gilbert.

The last step to qualify for the funding was to submit an application to the Department of Community and Economic Development, which Polk did earlier in the process.

The DCED fosters opportunities for businesses to grow and for communities to succeed and thrive in a global economy.
