Moore Elementary School donates funds for flag replacement at entrance to Palmerton
The Palmerton United Veterans Organization would like to replace the big flag at the entrance to the borough.
Thanks to the good-heartedness of students at a Northampton County elementary school, that initiative just became a bit easier.
As a token of their appreciation, Moore Elementary School presented the Palmerton UVO with a $400 donation on Wednesday.
Ed Moyer, commander of Palmerton American Legion Post 269, said the UVO had for years participated in the school’s Veterans Day flag etiquette program.
“Because of COVID, we couldn’t do it,” Moyer said. “They felt bad, and they wanted to come to us with a monetary donation.”
Katy Dremock, a third-grade instructor, and Curt Dimmick, principal, presented the donation to the UVO on behalf of Moore Elementary.
Dremock said that in years past, the school hosted the UVO as part of its Veterans Day program.
“With COVID, we couldn’t have it,” Dremock said. “We wanted to give back to them because they always (give back) to our community.”
George H. Duell Jr., Army Reserve Ambassador, said the UVO has been going to the school in the Northampton Area School District for Veterans Day programs over the years.
“They have been very appreciative of what we’ve done, and they said they’d like to do a donation,” Duell said. “We thought this was an excellent time to do it.”
Duell added that the UVO has also participated in similar events in the Northern Lehigh School District, as well as St. John Neumann Regional School.
“It’s so important that the kids are exposed to this,” he said. “It’s a good relationship.”
