LDI to host fifth annual Lehighton Downtown Farmers Market Saturday

The fifth annual Lehighton Downtown Farmers Market will begin on Saturday.

Hosted by the Lehighton Downtown Initiative, the event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the borough’s Lower Park.

A Handmade Only Craft Show will also be held on opening day, according to Bambi Elsasser, treasurer of the LDI.

“The Lehighton Downtown Farmers Market is a producer goods only market, which means everything sold there is either homegrown, homemade or handmade,” Elsasser said. “Live music will be accompanying all of our farmers and vendors each week.”

Elsasser noted that throughout the season, special events and activities will occur during the farmers market including everyone’s favorite, Christmas in July on July 24.

“Our normal farmers and vendors will be there as well as more crafters, small businesses, specialty foods and music,” she said. “Other fun events will be scheduled throughout the market season, so please stay tuned.”

Elsasser added that the chefs of St. Luke’s will once again join them, with dates to be announced, and encouraged people to follow the Lehighton Downtown Farmers Market on Facebook for all the up-to-date events and weekly notifications on what to look forward to at the market each week.

The Lehighton Downtown Farmers Market will be held Saturdays through Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. to noon, with the exception of opening day and Christmas in July, which will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

LDI is a nonprofit group of volunteers working on revitalizing the Lehighton downtown and surrounding areas, as well as making Lehighton a Trail Town.

The organization recently held its second annual Wine on the River, and will also be in charge of the Lehighton Fireworks held on July 4.

Its large two-day event, RockToberfest, will be held Oct. 16-17 to benefit many of its local organizations and charities.

There will also be movie nights at the amphitheater this summer, as well as some other fun things in the works.
