Man who rammed state police car charged, jailed

An Allentown man has been charged after ramming a state police vehicle during a pursuit through New Jersey and Stroudsburg Friday morning.

State Police at Stroudsburg said New Jersey State Police pursued Steven R. Wilson, 51, for 10 miles on Route 46 and Interstate 80. Police said Wilson was driving a silver Dodge Ram erratically and was speeding and changing lanes unsafely. The truck had a Pennsylvania plate but it wasn’t registered properly.

New Jersey Police terminated the pursuit at Delaware Water Gap and notified Pennsylvania police. When Stroudsburg state police tried to stop Wilson, he started ramming the police vehicle.

A trooper fired at Wilson’s driver door. Police said Wilson continued to accelerating, ramming the police car and fleeing.

Wilson turned on Route 209. When he reached Shafers Schoolhouse Road, police utilized a precision immobilization technique to stop him. Stroud Area Regional Police, Pocono Township Police and the K-9 unit assisted in the arrest of Wilson.

He was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono for treatment.

Wilson is charged with aggravated assault of law enforcement, recklessly endangering another person, illegal taunt of police animal, fleeing and alluding, driving under the influence with license DUI suspended.

He is in Monroe County Correctional Facility. Bail was denied because he is considered a flight risk.
