Nesquehoning police crack down on blighted properties

Nesquehoning police are cracking down on homes in deplorable conditions.

Officers executed a search warrant at a home in the 500 block of East Center Street last week for multiple code violations over a several-year period.

According to the affidavit, the owner of the property in question is Christina Turner, who does not live at the home, but rents rooms there without a residential license agreement per the borough ordinance.

Police state that the home has had numerous problems since 2019 and police have made multiple arrests at the property.

There were multiple residents living in the home at one time and several violations.

Police found the home to be unsuitable for living in over the last two years.

Police charged Turner on March 11 for multiple garbage and property maintenance violations at the home.

One last tenant, a 76-year-old woman, was still living there.

On April 8, borough police posted another warning and saw garbage and food all over the sidewalk and around the residence. It was also observed that the garage was filled with trash and dead animals.

A few weeks later, the water was shut off and it was recommended the home be condemned.

Turner was contacted and she refused to assist with the property, saying she did not care about it and abandoned it months ago. She also did not want to see if the tenant was OK without operational water or sewer.
