Summit Hill council

Summit Hill Borough Council discussed the following items last week.

• Kira Steber, secretary-treasurer, said spring cleanup dates have been confirmed by the borough’s trash collector.

The east side of the borough along with Knepper’s Mobile Home Court and both sides of White Bear Drive will be on Saturday.

The west side of town along with Laurel Drive and East and West Mountaintop Drive will be picked up on May 15.

Items to be picked up include up to four tires, tire rims, auto body parts, refrigerators, freezers, vending machines, dehumidifiers, water coolers, heat pumps, washers, dryers and stoves. All items must have chemicals removed. Refrigerators and similar items must have Freon removed and be tagged.

In addition, up to 10 bags of garbage will be collected during the cleanups.

• Resident Tim Manning was given permission to operate an Italian Ice truck in the borough as long as he gets the necessary licenses and a borough vending permit.

• Justin Priolo suggested the borough look into creating a renewal energy plan.

• Todd Konstas of Summit Hill asked that the borough’s fire siren be repaired. He said it isn’t sounded anymore.

“I think it’s important to have a siren to let the townspeople know there’s an emergency,” he said.

Council President Michael Kokinda said he will look into the matter.

• Council member David Wargo said five municipalities, representing 17,000 people, have voted in favor of a resolution he is promoting on fair funding for schools. He said three more municipalities are anticipating approving it.

He said he also plans to put a video presentation online to explain the situation. He also intends to speak to the Carbon County Commissioners on the matter.

• The Anthracite Little League was granted permission to use the Ginder Field for baseball practice through July 30, from 5-8 p.m.

• Kayla Poluka, activities chair for Serenity in the Mountains Area of Narcotics Anonymous, was granted permission to hold a kickball game from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 19 at the Ginder Field as long as she shows proof of the necessary insurance.

• The council received the resignation of officer Daniel Long as a part-time police officer, effective April 22.
