Carbon County commissioners

Carbon County Commissioners acted on or discussed the following items:

• Brandon Bell gave a presentation on his recent mission to speak with municipalities about signing on to become a Second Amendment sanctuary. He noted that five municipalities have already signed the resolution. Several residents also spoke in support of Bell’s proposal. No discussion or action by the commissioners occurred.

• Approved awarding a Community Development Block Grant project to Schuylkill Paving Inc. of Schuylkill Haven for street improvements along West Holland Street, between South Chestnut and Market streets, in Summit Hill. The company bid $54,081.

• Reject the bid for street improvements of a portion of Mauch Chunk Road in Palmerton under a CDBG grant at the request of Palmerton Borough.

• Approve a request to reprogram fiscal year 2019 and 2020 CDBG funds for Palmerton for street improvements of the south side of Mauch Chunk Road from Church Street to Linden Street.

• Commissioner Chris Lukasevich announced that the county has six lifeguards for Mauch Chunk Lake Park currently on the payroll, and there are three more pending training. Mauch Chunk Lake opens for swimming Memorial Day weekend.

Reappointments

• Approve the reappointments of Ann Dotter of Jim Thorpe and Jeanne Yoho Miller of Nesquehoning to three-year terms on the Children and Youth Advisory Board.

• Approve the reappointment of Michael Radocha of Nesquehoning to a five-year term on the Redevelopment Authority.

• Resignations: Ginny N. George of Albrightsville, part-time elections clerk, effective April 26; Edyta Masone of Jim Thorpe, adult probation officer I, effective May 7.

• Prison board appointment: Anthony A. Onorato of Lehighton, corrections officer, effective May 3.

• Hires as recommended by department supervisors: Mark J. Nordyke of Kunkletown, county caseworker II, Children and Youth, effective May 3; Eric E. George of Albrightsville, seasonal park ranger I, effective May 7; Jeffrey L. Davis of Jim Thorpe, assistant chief assessor, tax assessment, effective May 10; Audrey L. Alvarado of Albrightsville, secretary III, Children and Youth, effective May 17; Levi S. Monk of Lehighton, lifeguard, effective June 5.
