Pennsylvania State Police have set up a tip line for any information in the investigation of the death of Evelyn Colon, formerly Beth Doe, found in East Side Borough on Dec. 20, 1976.

On that day, the Pennsylvania State Police were contacted to investigate human remains found on the riverbank of the Lehigh River. The investigation revealed two separate human remains, one being a female and the other being a near full-term fetus.

After 44 years, the remains were identified as Evelyn Colon, 15, of Jersey City, New Jersey. Numerous interviews and investigational processes were conducted following her identification, which led to the development of a suspect.

Last week, one count of criminal homicide was filed against Luis Sierra, 63, Ozone Park, New York, at District Court 56-3-04. Sierra, who was 19 at the time of the crime, is in custody and will be awaiting extradition.

The Pennsylvania State Police, in consultation with the Carbon County District Attorney’s Office, will provide detailed information regarding this case in the near future.
