Carbon makes changes to summer positions

Carbon County is making some changes to some summer positions to better maintain them under the county pay scales.

Last week, the board of commissioners approved actions on 12 lifeguard positions. Six positions are lifeguards who are returning for the upcoming summer season at Mauch Chunk Lake.

The changes include increasing six new lifeguard positions from $11 per hour to $11.16 per hour; three lifeguard positions to $11.49 per hour; one position to $11.83 per hour; one position to $12.19 per hour and one to $12.55 per hour; while also removing the designation of adding 25 cents per hour for each year of service if applicable.

Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein said they were just moving the positions to fit with the rest of the county pay scale.

In addition to lifeguard positions being put on the pay scale, the county also approved the change of rate of three part-time seasonal park maintenance, one temporary park attendant and one park attendant positions from $11 per hour to $11.16 per hour.

On the liquid fuels summer program, three summer supervisor positions were changed from $14 per hour to $14.08 per hour; and 12 summer laborers and one summer coordinator were changed from $11 to $11.16 per hour.
