Woman celebrates 90th birthday at her workplace

It’s been said age is only a number.

Dorothy Frable is living proof of that.

Like many, Frable drives a vehicle, holds down a job, and still finds time for herself.

But, there is one rather extraordinary difference that sets her apart from nearly everyone else.

Frable is 90 years old, yet still performs activities commonly associated with those many years her junior.

Her moxie was clear as day while she sat on a chair during a birthday party held for her at Majestic Fire Apparel Inc. in Franklin Township, where she has been employed since September 2016.

Frable explained why she continues to work while others way younger than her have already called it a day.

“I worked all my life,” Frable said. “One day I was at home, and I said ‘how much house work can you do,’ so I applied, and was lucky enough to come to a great place.”

Asked specifically what type of works she does, Frable was rather short and concise in her response.

“I sew,” she said. “Anything that they need.”

Frable, of Palmerton, said she works three days a week, eight hours a day.

“I feel fine; it’s just something I’ve always liked to do,” she said. “I just always liked to sew.”

Frable said she’s worked for about 52 years, including prior stints sewing throughout the area.

“I like to knit, crochet, crossword puzzles,” she said. “I like to read; that’s how I got so smart.”

Dorothy’s grandson, Steve Frable, attended the party and said he’s astonished by his grandmother’s drive.

“I’m amazed at all the things she’s able to do,” Steve said. “People half her age give up and say they can’t do it.”

Nikki Slivka, marketing manager, said she’s simply in awe of Dorothy.

“I just think it’s amazing that she’s 90 years old, and she’s still coming to work, driving, she cracks some jokes,” Slivka said. “She’s adorable.”

Jackie Bonser, a sales representative, agreed that Dorothy’s capacity to do what she does is truly amazing.

Steve said he can’t help but laugh at his grandmother’s famous saying.

“Her saying is she don’t know,” he quipped. “She didn’t get there yet.”

Asked how long she plans to continue working, Dorothy said for as long as she can.

“Life’s been pretty good to me,” she said. “I’ve been fortunate.”

So too, apparently, is Majestic Fire Apparel to have her as an employee.
