The Mahanoy City Senior Center is getting new heat pumps.

Schuylkill County commissioners voted to buy four Trane heat pumps for $38,200.

Public works director Paul Fetterolf said the head pumps, which will be installed on the roof, were “starting to rust apart.” He said the equipment was requiring a lot of maintenance. For example, previously the county replaced a compressor that cost thousands. County Administrator Gary Bender said the heat pumps were original to the building, dating back to 2000 or 2001.
