Multiple cars crash on snowy I-81, Frackville police car hit

Snow and icy conditions along Interstate 81 in Kline Township. Schuylkill County, was the cause of a multiple vehicle crash that included a state police cruiser.

State police at Frackville said the incident occurred at 6:34 p.m. on Feb. 15 in the northbound lanes.

Troopers said Hipolito Pabon Jr., 51, of Lebanon, driving a 2001 Toyota Sequoia, said he lost control of his vehicle due to road conditions. His vehicle went onto the right berm and hit the guide rails before coming to rest partially in the right lane of travel.

Trooper John Jones, 39, stopped to assist Pabon when his 2015 Ford police interceptor was sideswiped by a 2016 international tractor with trail driven by Steven Kinney Jr., 22, of Presque Isle, Maine.

A1999 Honda Civic, driven by Ken Wilson, 43, of Lansford, ran into the rear of the tractor-trailer. The Civic came to rest in the median area. Additionally, three other vehicles managed to avoid crashes but became disabled in the snow within the median area.

Troopers said Wilson and his passenger, Heather Carl, 40, of Lansford, were injured and transported by EMS units. Troopers did not indicate where they were transported. Both northbound lanes were closed for about an hour and a half until the wreckage was clear. Fire personnel from Delano, McAdoo and Tresckow assisted at the scene.
