Man charged with possession of methamphetamine
A Lansford man has been charged with possession of methamphetamine following a traffic stop.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by trooper Bradley Emerick of the Pennsylvania State Police Lehighton barracks in the case against Daniel Hollan:
At 10:30 p.m. Feb. 12, Emerick saw a tan Honda parked in front of Diggity Dog hot dog stand in Lehighton.
A registration check showed the owner, Hollan, 38, had his license on DUI suspension.
Emerick saw the car turn onto Iron Street, and then onto South Second Street where it parked.
Emerick conducted a traffic stop at Iron and South Second Street.
A female passenger was seated in the front right seat.
Emerick said Hollan had red glassy/watery eyes. Hollan said he was coming back from the local electronic store to exchange a printer that was broken.
Emerick asked Hollan for his driver’s license, vehicle registration and proof of insurance, but Hollan was unable to show his driver’s license.
Emerick asked him to exit the vehicle and asked if he had any warrants for his arrest, which he said he did.
Emerick asked Hollan to tilt his head back. He had a white powdery substance located within both nostrils. Hollan said he used drugs 30 minutes before driving. Hollan failed field sobriety tests.
Police searched the car and found a plastic container containing a scale, multiple small zip-close baggies, white paper containing suspected drugs and multiple white oval pills.
A small glass vial container located behind Hollan’s neck contained suspected methamphetamine, multiple small zip-close baggies and rubber bands. He had $2,666 in cash in his wallet.
The suspected methamphetamine weighed 19.8 grams and there was suspected drug residue on the scale. Hollan refused a blood draw.
He faces charges of intentional possession of controlled substance by person not registered; use/possession of drug paraphernalia; manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver; driver’s license suspended/revoked; DUI - general impairment/incapable of driving safely; reckless driving and careless driving.
He was taken to the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $30,000 monetary bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing March 3 before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz of Jim Thorpe.
