West Penn thanks locals for donations

The West Penn Board of Supervisors met on Monday morning, and Chairman Tony Prudenti wanted to thank a handful of township residents for generous donations.

“We’re very lucky in West Penn Township,” Prudenti said. “We have some terrific residents who really step up to the plate and try to help us. … We wanted to publicly thank a couple of people.”

Prudenti thanked Mark Boyle and Mike Kistler, who recently donated to a project; Bryan Miller for donating anti-skid to the township and Jay Land for donating money to help take care of a section on Blue Mountain Road.

“These are people who didn’t have to do any of this. … It makes it very nice for the township to have people working with us on a daily basis.”

Supervisor Tim Houser agreed.

“It shows the cooperation of businesspeople in West Penn Township,” Houser said. “We don’t always agree with everything, but overall, everyone’s heart is in the right place.”

• The board approved a motion instructing Arro Consulting to move forward with a grant application. The grant is for a park with fields, a multipurpose recreation building and playground equipment for the donated land from Bella Terra Farm.

• Recycling bins have been ordered for the township’s new upcoming program. Schuylkill County ended its countywide recycling program last month, which left many townships stuck in limbo. West Penn’s plan is in progress and more details will be available in the coming weeks.
