Carbon driver hit on Route 22 ramp

A Carbon County driver was involved in a two-vehicle crash in Lehigh County at 4:23 p.m. on Feb. 6.

State police at Bethlehem said the crash occurred along Route 22 in Bethlehem.

Troopers said James A. Hartman, 52, of Lehighton, was parked on the left berm of the ramp leading from Route 378 to Route 22 in a 2017 GMC Savana fully off the road on the gravel.

Nadine N. Eltz, 29, of Allentown, driving a 2005 BMW X3, was westbound on the ramp headed toward Route 22 when her vehicle left the road on the north side and struck the Savana in the rear bumper area with the front bumper of her vehicle.

Upon impact the Savana turned on to its driver’s side and came to rest.

The BMW turned 90 degrees and came to final rest on the south berm.

Eltz then fled the scene but was later located and charged with hit and run.

Troopers indicated Hartman may have sustained an injury but refused medical treatment.
