Schuylkill man arraigned in death of grandmother

A Pine Grove man was arraigned Friday on homicide charges in the death of his grandmother.

Kalvin Clark was denied bail because of the murder charge. He remains in Schuylkill County Prison.

State police charged him with first and third degree murder, aggravated assault, strangulation, recklessly endangering another person and simple assault in the death of his 73-year-old grandmother, Sharon Zimmerman. Charges were filed in Magisterial Judge David Rossi office in Tremont. A preliminary hearing is set for 11 a.m. March 25.

Police withdrew the original charges of aggravated assault and simple assault.

The Schuylkill County Communications Center received a 3:15 p.m. call Jan. 24 for an elderly woman who had slipped in the shower and cuts. Schuylkill EMS responded at 3:17 p.m. to 89 N. Tulpehocken St. and found Zimmerman dead. Police were then called. Police say Clark admitted he and the victim had an argument before her death.
