Hearing continued in baby’s death

The preliminary hearing for the Reading man charged in the death of his 3-month-old child has been continued.

Cordell John Thomas, 22, has a hearing set for 1 p.m. March 3 in Magisterial District Judge James Reiley’s courtroom.

He remains in Schuylkill County Prison without bail for the Sept. 24 incident in Pottsville. Thomas was arrested in Reading last month in the death of the child who “died due to blunt-force trauma to the head,” Berks County Sheriff Eric J. Weaknecht said.

Pottsville Police filed felony charges Jan. 21 of third-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, and two charges of aggravated assault. One charge each of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, endangering the welfare of children when a parent, guardian or other commits an offense were also filed.
