Carbon commissioners approves salary changes
Carbon County Salary Board approved changes to the salaries of several positions in county offices on Thursday.
Most actions were approved unanimously, but two changes in the sheriff’s office received some discussion by one board member.
Commissioner Chris Lukasevich voted no to change the rate of one chief deputy from $30.30 per hour to $26.83 per hour and abolish the chief deputy trainee position that was paid $26.05 per hour, both effective Feb. 10.
Before voting no, Lukasevich said, “In maintaining consistency in my position that the creation and subsequent filling of unnecessary and redundant leadership positions in the sheriff’s office that were based notably on the premise that a lieutenant in the bargaining unit disciplining subordinate bargaining unit members was problematic or placed leaders in an uncomfortable position, which I continue to find incomprehensible, therefore I will maintain the position and vote no.”
The two motions passed 4-1.
The chief deputy position will be filled by Daniel Zeigler of Lake Harmony, who had been serving as chief deputy trainee since Nov. 5.
