Chestnuthill requires recreation fee for subdivision

Editor's note: This story has been corrected to show that Joe Hanyon was speaking at the meeting. He was incorrectly identified in the original publication.

Chestnuthill Township Supervisors and Joe Hanyon, who was representing Connie J. Merwine, went several rounds about a park and recreational fee refund this week.

Hanyon submitted a minor subdivision in 2017, and it was finally approved at the last meeting.

He requested that the board refund the $1,500 park and recreational fee they asked for when the plan was approved.

Hanyon said the board is allowed to charge fees according to the subdivision and the land development ordinance.

“It clearly doesn’t require the land owner to pay a park and recreation fee on a minor subdivision,” he said.

As the conversations went back and forth, the volume got louder.

After 30 minutes, when solicitor Tim McManus said, “This is like going around the mulberry bush, and you just can’t come in years later. You didn’t notify the supervisors that you did not accept the conditions, so it is deemed you accept the conditions to pay the $1,500.”
