Bowmanstown to purchase computers

Bowmanstown’s computer system will be addressed, but a camera system for borough hall doesn’t seem likely.

On a 6-0 vote, borough council on Tuesday agreed to spend an amount not to exceed $3,805 for two computers, along with accessories, from whichever of the three companies that submitted quotes can install them soonest.

Councilwoman Candace Rodrigues was absent.

Several members of council stated the borough’s computer system needs to be addressed.

Afterward, Councilman Rob Moyer suggested council not pursue the addition of a camera system at borough hall.

Last month, council tabled a quote it received in the amount of $2,150 from Control Security.

Moyer at that meeting questioned the need for the camera system.

However, council President William Ravert said he believed at that time the camera system was needed.

Ravert cited an instance where borough hall was almost broken into, and that having a camera system would allow state police to review footage.

Councilwoman Kara Scott said at that time she believes the money would be better spent if it were used to install cameras in the tunnel that runs under Route 248.

Scott said the tunnel is where people feel the least safe.

In November, council announced that the security cameras that were previously purchased would not meet the needs of the borough and have been returned and refunded.
