State police DUI/Drug cases

Area state police reported on the following cases:

• A Monroe County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence following a traffic stop.

State police at Lehighton said Matthew Evans, 23, of Effort was stopped driving a 2009 Dodge Ram truck along Bayberry Road at Toll Road in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County, at 3:14 a.m. Sunday.

He was found to be under the influence. Police said charges will be filed.

• A Schuylkill County man is facing a drug charge following an incident in Lehigh County.

State police at Fogelsville said troopers conducted a traffic stop of a 2002 Jeep Cherokee at 11:19 p.m. on Dec. 14 along Route 100 at Saddle Road, in Heidelberg Township.

During the course of the stop numerous indicators of criminal activity were observed and the odor of marijuana detected. The driver, a 20-year-old man from New Ringgold, who troopers declined to identify, admitted possessing marijuana. Marijuana was seized and charges will be filed.

• A traffic stop in Luzerne County has led to charges for a Schuylkill County resident.

State police at Hazleton said troopers conducted the stop at 1:42 a.m. on Jan. 17 along North Church Street at Hazle Township Boulevard in Hazle Township, of a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Through an investigation it was determined that the driver, a 32-year-old man from McAdoo, who troopers declined to identify, was deemed impaired and placed under arrest for driving under the influence.
