Law enforcement authorities in the Tobyhanna-Coolbaugh Township and Pocono Country Place and Pocono Farms East developments in Monroe County have recommended residents in those areas shelter in place in the wake of multiple shootings that took place on Monday afternoon.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police said four people were shot in what they are calling “attempted homicide” incidents. Police said residents can expect elevated police activity in those areas while the investigation is underway.

Police said they were initially dispatched at 5:05 p.m. to the area of the Tobyhanna Shopping Center off Route 196 in Coolbaugh for a report of multiple gunshots having been shot at a vehicle. While officers were investigating that report, they heard rapid gunfire in the area, and subsequently received a report of a shooting having taken place at 5330 Ledgewood Drive, Tobyhanna.

Police said they arrived at the scene and found two victims, a 47-year-old woman who suffered a wound to her back, and a 19-year-old man who was shot in the arm. Police said both wounds are believed to have been caused by a high velocity round. Police said they set a tourniquet on the victim’s arm and began securing the scene.

While they were doing so, another call was received regarding another victim who was in a vehicle near the intersection of Kings Way and Route 196. Police went there and found a 20-year-old man had suffered a wound to the head, believed to have been caused by a gun. Police said they secured that scene and were assisted by EMS in removing the victim from the scene.

Police then received an additional dispatch of a vehicle crash at the intersection of Kings Way and Campbell Drive, Tobyhanna, Coolbaugh Township. Police said found a 20-year-old man in the vehicle. He was shot in the leg at another residence in the Pocono Farms East Development. Police set a tourniquet on this victim and secured that scene.
