Ringtown man died during riot at Capitol

A man with a Schuylkill County address is listed as one of the people who died when protesters stormed the Capitol in Washington, D.C. Wednesday afternoon. The Metro Police Department Twitter page lists the man as Benjamin Phillips, 50, of Ringtown.

The Columbia County Chief Registrar/Director of Elections confirmed he has a Ringtown address but is a resident of the county.

Matthew Repasky said Benjamin Phillips has a registered address of 4 Pine Summit Frst, Ringtown in Roaring Creek Township.

He said Phillips first voted in Nov. 8, 2016, election. Most recently he voted in the Nov.3 election. He doesn’t recall if he ever met Phillips.

Others who died a 55-year-old man from Athens, Alabama; and a 34-year-old woman from Kennesaw, Georgia.

The three were on the grounds of the Capitol when they experienced medical emergencies, Contee said.

One of the rioters, a woman from Maryland, died of a gunshot wound.
