Summit Hill announces trash pickup changes

Summit Hill has announced what residents should expect with their garbage collection come 2021.

In a letter from council President Michael Kokinda and sanitation committee chairman David Wargo, there are a few changes to trash pickup, but many of the same procedures will still be in place.

The new garbage collection company, County Waste, will begin on Jan. 1 and will pick up trash in town on Thursdays. Alternate holiday pickup days will be announced before the holiday.

There will be no recycling pickup, but this will be re-evaluated after a year. Recycling should be placed in with the trash.

Residents’ garbage bill will decrease to $195 for the year, but there will be no email or early bird discounts.

The time frame for when trash is allowed to be placed on the curb will remain no more than 24 hours before pickup.

Trash must be placed in proper receptacle containers that residents should provide. County Waste will not provide trash cans. Only five bags, weighing no more than 50 pounds per bag will be picked up. This includes ashes, which must be placed in ashcans or buckets.

One bulk item is allowed to be placed out for trash a week, but no construction or building materials will be taken.

Fall and spring cleanups, as well as electronics recycling day will continue as the borough has done in the past.

If you are a commercial business using the residential hauler, you must follow these guidelines or provide proof of a commercial contract with a legitimate sanitation company to be exempted from trash collection.

If you have any questions, contact the borough office at 570-645-2305 or speak with any council member.
