St. Jerome Regional School reports first positive COVID-19 case

A St. Jerome Regional School student has tested positive for COVID-19, the school announced Monday.

In a letter to parents, Principal Amy Hannis-Miskar said the student was last in school Dec. 7.

Families of students or staff who were in close contact with the student and need to quarantine will be contacted by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, she added.

Close contact, according to the letter, is defined as being within 6 feet of an infected individual for 15 minutes or more.

“St. Jerome Regional School will remain open as normal providing in-person or virtual education per the choice of individual families,” Hannis-Miskar said. “The school is cleaned and disinfected each day along with the areas the student who tested positive for COVID-19 may have used.”

Crews did another deep clean of the entire building on Friday.

Hannis-Miskar said the school couldn’t share any personal information regarding the positive test for confidentiality reasons. School officials continue to encourage students to continue with established and appropriate precautions regarding COVID-19.

“If you or any members of your household develop symptoms of COVID-19 or have symptoms worsen,” Hannis-Miskar wrote in the letter, “notify your local health department of the Pennsylvania Department of Health immediately at 1-877-724-3258, and contact a local health care provider.”
