Lehighton advertises budget with no increase in municipal tax rate

Lehighton residents remain on track to see no increase in their municipal tax bills next year.

Borough council on Thursday agreed to advertise the 2021 budget and tax levy ordinance with no tax increase.

If council were to adopt a budget with no millage increase, it would leave the millage rate at 9.5 mills.

That would mean a homeowner with a home assessed at $50,000 would again pay $475 to the borough next year in taxes.

Council is scheduled to grant final adoption of the budget when it meets at 6 p.m. Dec. 21.
