Schuylkill plans to keep taxes level

Schuylkill County residents can potentially keep more of their money in 2021 than giving it to the county for taxes.

Wednesday’s agenda shows approval requested for the preliminary budget that keeps the tax rate at 15.98 mills.

Expenditures are listed at $66,315,959 while revenues are $58,294,395. The remaining amount of $8,021,564 will come from the general fund unassigned fund balance.

Finance Director Paul Buber said if approved this will be the third budget in a row without a tax hike. Commissioners have the final say. Buber said the final budget is slated for adoption Dec. 23.

County Administrator Gary Bender was not available for comment.
