Plans for a vigil tonight at Pleasant Valley High School for Aiden Paiz have been canceled.
Superintendent Lee Lesisko said his family doesn’t want one right now.
Paiz, 15, of Kunkletown, was a ninth-grader at the high school. He was shot Sunday night by several assailants while sitting in a car on Rainbow Terrace cul-de-sac, near Squirrelwood Court, in Polk Township, according to state police at Lehighton.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Also in the car was a 17-year-old man, also of Kunkletown, was shot but was able to be taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital – Pocono Campus, East Stroudsburg for treatment.
A third male, a 13-year-old teen, was not injured in the shooting. Police think the shooting was part of a robbery.
“Aiden was a very friendly and likeable individual,” Lesisko said. “He was part of anti-bullying committee and was trying out for the basketball team.”
Lesisko urges any students who want to talk about this situation to contact his or her school counselor.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Aiden’s family,” Lesisko said.
