Wednesday update: 6,339 more positive cases, another new daily high

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported Wednesday that there were 6,339 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 281,852.

This is the highest daily increase of cases.

There are 2,737 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 579 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.

As of 11:59 p.m., Tuesday, there were 110 new deaths reported for a total of 9,465 deaths attributed to COVID-19.

Local numbers

Carbon County reported 949 cases, an increase of 30 since Tuesday. Three more deaths have been reported, which brings the total to 40.

Lehigh County 8970 cases, an increase of 139. Deaths remain at 374.

Luzerne County reported 7,555, an increase of 228 cases. The death total is now 236, an increase of six from Tuesday.

Monroe County reported 2,659 cases, an increase of 28. Two more deaths have been reported for a total of 137.

Northampton County reported 7,143 cases, an increase of 130 cases. Deaths reported are now 324.

Schuylkill County reported 3,121, an increase of 70. There have been 139 deaths, four more reported since Tuesday.
