Smoke from train clears post office

Smoke from a train led to carbon monoxide concerns in downtown Jim Thorpe on Thursday.

Jim Thorpe Fire Department responded to the post office on Lehigh Avenue between 5 and 6 p.m. after officials there reported its carbon monoxide alarm was going off.

“They reported that a train across the street had been running all day and fumes were coming inside the post office building,” Police Chief Joe Schatz said. “The railroad was contacted to address the issue.”

Fire Department officials vented the post office building to ensure it was safe for occupancy.

Schatz said officials from the train company did show up later and move the train.
