Man charged with throwing beer, crowbar at woman

A White Haven man accused of attacking a woman faces charges of simple assault, resisting arrest and harassment after Kidder Township police had to deploy a Taser to subdue him.

James Patrick Duncan, 41, is in Carbon County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail following the Nov. 10 incident.

According to police, the woman pulled into the driveway at a residence in Pocono Mountain Lakes, where Duncan and his father were drinking alcohol. Duncan got upset at the woman for asking him a question and threw a beer at her, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed at Magisterial District Judge Joseph Homanko’s office.

Duncan grabbed her by the throat and threw her against the house, police said. He later grabbed a crowbar from the garage and threatened to smash windows. He threw the crowbar at the woman, who had called 911.

After pushing her to the ground, police said Duncan left the scene in his truck, came back a few minutes later and tried to break down the door. When police arrived, Duncan clenched both of his fists and came at an officer, “in an aggressive manner,” according to the affidavit.

Duncan refused further commands and police deployed a Taser. He fell to the ground and tried to pull out the prongs, police said. Police took Duncan into custody after backup arrived.

In a statement to police, Duncan said the woman attacked him.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday at 10:15 a.m.
