Weissport to purchase maintenance truck

In Weissport news, borough council voted unanimously in favor of purchasing a new pre-owned borough maintenance truck. The truck is being sold by the Tamaqua Water Authority. The 2011 Ford 250 will be purchased with allocated Liquid Fuels funds for $10,000.

A mountain bike club from Northeast Pennsylvania is showing interest in a 4-acre piece of land in Weissport.

The club expressed interest in using the land for bike enthusiasts to create what’s known as a “pump track,” which is a term used for a mountain bike track with built-up hills and turns formed into the dirt and land.

Clay is also incorporated into the dirt track. Grants will help fund the clay, which is one of the main materials that will be of cost to make the pump track.

It is expected that cycling enthusiasts of all types travel through the Delaware & Lehigh Trail nearby, and the pump track would be at great location to draw in visitors and stimulate local business growth.

The club has assured that they will fully maintain the track going forward. There will be an area designed for young children with the adjacent area being more built up for older kids and adults. The bike track space will be free for people to access and enjoy.

The club members plan to attend a borough meetings in the near future to discuss plans.
