Schuylkill ranks third in percent-positivity for virus

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of midnight that there were 2,060 new cases, in addition to 1,909 new cases reported Sunday for a two-day total of 3,969 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 211,996. Daily increases are now the highest they have ever been since the start of the pandemic.

There were five new deaths reported Sunday, and six new deaths reported for Monday, for a total of 8,823 deaths attributed to COVID-19.

The statewide percent-positivity went up to 6.1% from 5.0% last week.

Schuylkill County is third in the state with 11.1%, behind Bradford (12.4%) and Armstrong (11.9%). Lehigh (6.0%) and Monroe (5.4%) are on a watch list.

As of Friday’s data, Armstrong, Berks, Blair, Bradford, Cambria, Centre, Crawford, Dauphin, Delaware, Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon, Indiana, Lackawanna, Lawrence, Lebanon, Lehigh, Luzerne, Mifflin, Philadelphia, Schuylkill, Tioga, Venango, Westmoreland, Wyoming, and York counties were in the substantial level of community transmission.

The departments of Education and Health will speak with school district representatives in these counties to discuss the implications of this level of transmission.

Two-day increases locally are:

• Carbon County is reporting 624 cases, an increase of 13 cases over two days. Deaths attributed to COVID-19 remain at 31.

• Lehigh County is reporting 6,944 cases, an increase of 133. Deaths remain at 366.

• Luzerne County reported an increase of 129 cases, bringing the total to 5,545. Deaths have increased by one for a total of 207.

• Monroe County has 23 new cases, bringing the total to 2,092. Deaths remain at 135.

• Northampton County has 5,655 cases, an increase of 87 cases. Deaths remain at 315.

• Schuylkill County has 2,230 cases, an increase of 78 cases. Deaths attributed to COVID-19 remain at 97.
