Man charged with distribution of methamphetamine

A Nesquehoning man has been charged with the distribution of methamphetamine.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer John Pruitte Jr. of the Jim Thorpe Police Department in the case against Christopher Ohl:

On Oct. 22, as part of an ongoing investigation into the distribution of methamphetamine distribution in Carbon County, Pruitte received information indicating that Ohl, 44, was in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine.

Surveillance was established with members of the Carbon County Drug Task Force and agents from the Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics.

Ohl was operating a silver Mercury Mountaineer when surveillance observed Ohl leaving a residence in Penn Forest Township.

Ohl was subsequently stopped on East Catawissa Street in Nesquehoning, at which time he was advised of the drug investigation.

Ohl was cooperative and advised that he placed a container of methamphetamine into the groin area of his pants.

The container was recovered and later weighed with an approximate weight of 36 grams.

A search of the vehicle was conducted, at which time a tan backpack was located on the passenger front seat and inside was a black draw string bag containing a scale with crystalline residue and clear baggies, commonly used to weigh and package narcotics and baking soda, commonly used to “cut” narcotics.

A black zipper bag containing $2,355 in money was also located inside the backpack.

All items were seized and later logged into evidence at Jim Thorpe Police Department.

The suspected methamphetamine was sent to Pennsylvania State Police Wyoming Regional Lab for analysis.

Ohl faces charges of possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance; unlawful possession of a controlled substance; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 monetary bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek of Lansford.
