Halloween events

• The West End Park and Open Space Commission has announced its annual trick-or-treat event for this year will be a drive-thru format from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, along with the West End Fire Company which will host the night at its home base in Brodheadsville on Route 715, behind Wawa.

Participants are to remain in their respective car and follow the traffic control officers.

Any community organization which would like to participate or would like to make a candy donation, is asked to contact Bernie at 570-992-9733.

• Polk Township’s trick-or-treat will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31. Families who would like to participate, are asked to turn on an outdoor light. There is no rain date.

Halloween Parade

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will hold a Halloween parade at 2 p.m. for parishioners in the church parking lot on Halloween.

Families are invited to dress up the car and family members and then enter the church grounds from the Route 209 entrance.

Costumed characters, all wearing masks and gloves, will come out and give out individually wrapped candy. Cars then exit on Weir Lake Road.

For added safety, all drivers and passengers must either have their windows up, or they can roll them down if they’re wearing a mask. Members are reminded that individually wrapped candy is needed for the parade.

Ross meeting

The Ross Township Board of Supervisors is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the municipal building on Anchorage Road.

Monthly meeting

The West End Home Association will meet at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 4 in the American Legion’s Post Home 927 in Gilbert.

Patriots Ball

There will be a Patriots Ball at the Lehighton American Legion, Post 314, 381 Bridge St., Nov. 7, featuring DJ Slacker.

Tickets are needed. Semiformal attire is required.

Orphan Sunday

Nov. 8 is Orphan Sunday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. The Orphan Outreach Ministry will pray the Rosary and include a lantern release for all the orphans of the world. Attendees are asked to bring their respective rosary or one will be provided.

An invitation to join in the fellowship, cider and snacks around the bonfire by the pavilion at 6 p.m. on Nov. 8, has been extended.

An RSVP to Flannery at 570-350-9652 has been requested.

Food fundraiser

Middlecreek Christian Church, at 343 Dorshimer Road, Kresgeville, is holding a fundraiser for its West End Fair bean bake by the quart and apple dumplings.

Place an order on the church’s Facebook page or leave an order on the church’s voicemail at 570-629-4066.

Pickup of the order is between 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 21, using a drive-thru pickup.

Payment by cash or check made out to Middlecreek Christian Church is acceptable.

All orders are due by Nov. 6.

Veterans parade

An annual Veterans Day parade in honor of veterans will be held at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 8, at the Pocono Raceway.

Eldred ceremony

The public is invited to a Veterans Day 2020 ceremony honoring veterans at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Eldred Township Veteran’s Memorial, 490 Kunkletown Road, Kunkletown, PA.

Masks are required.

This year the ceremony will be outdoors only, weather permitting.

Food drive continues

The West End Home Association’s food drive continues through Nov. 22.

Donors are asked to bring canned/dry goods to the collection box in the Post 927 entry foyer.

The drive will benefit community food banks.

Blood donations

The next American Red Cross with open appointments times at this point is the drive taking place from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 20, at the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert.

One can also donate to the Miller-Keystone Blood Center at the Brodheadsville satellite at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville, from 7:30 a.m. to noon or 1:30 p.m., depending on what kind of donation, by calling 610-691-5850 / 800-B-A-DONOR.

No Thanksgiving dinner

Due to the current COVID-19 situation, Pastor Ken Edwards of Effort UMC has announced that the 15-year traditional Thanksgiving Day community dinner has been canceled.

He hopes to reinstitute that event in 2021.

Supervisors needed

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity needs construction site supervisors to accomplish its goal of completing 30 home preservation projects in Monroe County.
