Cramspie named boys basketball Coach of the Year by PCA

Panther Valley’s Pat Crampsie was selected as the 2019-20 Boys Basketball Coach of the Year by the Pennsylvania Coaches Association.

Crampsie’s award was announced earlier this week. He joins coaches in 20 others sports from throughout the state in receiving the honor.

Earlier this year, Crampsie guided the Panthers to their first District 11 championship since 1986 when they beat Notre Dame, 59-53, in the Class 3A championship game. Panther Valley followed that up with a PIAA state playoff win over Dobbins Tech before its history-making campaign eventually came to an end.

According to the Pennsylvania Coaches Association, the awards are based not solely on wins and losses, but on the impact a coach has on his or her program. Among the qualities considered are teaching sportsmanship, stressing the importance of education, leading by example, and doing the right things for their student athletes and schools.

Crampsie has been the Panthers’ head coach for the past 18 seasons.

In addition to Crampsie, three others District 11 coaches were honored with Coach of the Year awards. They were Easton’s Carm DeDuca in baseball; Easton’s Bobbi Jo Powell in cross country; and Nazareth’s Dave Crowell in wrestling.
