Schuylkill driver had suspended license, drugs

A New Ringgold woman is facing drug charges after a traffic stop in Tamaqua.

Kathy Dee Tonkin, 25, of the 3000 block of Summer Valley Road, New Ringgold, is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, false identification to law enforcement, flight to avoid apprehension and summary offenses of driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked and general lighting requirements, for an incident on Sept. 19 at 12:57 a.m.

Police conducted a traffic stop on Mauch Chunk Street, the vehicle contained the driver and a passenger, both females. The driver was asked for the vehicle registration and driver’s license.

She could not produce a license but the registration indicated Sara Hook as the owner. The driver was asked to get out the vehicle. She was asked to write down her name and birth and wrote Sara Hook 12/4/79. The officer then went to the passenger, who had a driver’s license in hand and it had the name Sara Hook.

When the officer then turned to the driver, she was gone. Police searched the area but didn’t find her.

The officer found 36 wax glassine bags of suspected heroin, a zippered bag of methamphetamine and two hypodermic needles.

Through the course of the investigation police learned the identity of the driver was Tonkin and that she had an active arrest warrant for her issued out of Schuylkill County Adult Probation Office for a drug conviction. A check of her operating privileges show they were suspended.
