Vietnam Vet holds intruder at bay with pistol after being threatened

A Vietnam Veteran held an intruder at bay with his pistol after being told that “gang” members were trying to kill him.

State Police at the Stroudsburg barracks said they received a 911 call at 4:45 p.m. Sunday from a 72-year-old man who lives in Swiftwater, Paradise Township, regarding a black man at his home saying that “gang” members were trying to kill him.

While on the phone with PSP desk personnel, the man, later identified as Kwesi Skerritt, 38, of Bronx, New York, walked from the front door to the rear of the residence.

The victim, hearing the loud noise, ran into the kitchen where he encountered Skerritt, drew his legally owned pistol on Skerritt, and ordered him to the ground.

Skerritt remained on the floor of the kitchen until Trooper Williams Jenkins arrived on scene and placed him in custody.

Skerritt provided confusing statements related to his travels, or why he was at the residence, which was located in a very secluded area on top of a hill. He appeared to be under the influence of some type of controlled substance.

Trooper Justin Leri, Criminal Investigation Unit, and Trooper William Jenkins, Patrol Unit, completed criminal charges on Skerritt.

Skerritt was arraigned by District Judge Kristina Anzini of Stroudsburg, and remanded to the Monroe County Correctional Facility on $100,000 bail.
