Bingo held

The West End Park and Open Space Commission is hosting an October bingo at Chestnuthill Park in Brodheadsville this Friday beginning at 6:30.

Limited spots are first-come, first-served. Participants are asked to bring a mask to wear inside premises and kindly remain home if not feeling well.

The event will follow COVID-19 guidelines and will be subject to change based on the most current COVID-19 health guidelines at the time of the event.

There will be door prizes, specials, pull tabs and refreshments.

Only prepackaged snacks sold at this time, to be eaten while seated. No outside food or drink permitted.

Early Halloween

Effort UMC Missions Committee will be holding a drive-thru Halloween/fall celebration from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. This is in lieu of the Fall Family Fun Day normally held.

The church invites community participation by having the children dress in their costumes and perhaps the adults will decorate their cars and drive through the parking lot.

Zion worship

This Sunday, Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville plans on beginning worshipping in the sanctuary.

Among the criteria of so doing are: worshippers being well; entering through the front door; wearing face masks; bulletins and hand sanitizer in the entryway; offering plates at the back of the sanctuary; labeled pews, impacting seating; waving allowed during the Passing of the Peace, but no hugging or handshakes; 6-foot separation between Communion participants; hand sanitizer available on way; after exiting the service, maintain distances; social interaction outside.

LAMA meeting

The Latin American Motorcycle Association, Pocono Chapter, will meet at 10 a.m. Sunday in the main hall of American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert.

Registering to vote

The last day to register before the November election is Oct. 19.

The last day to apply for a mail-in or civilian absentee ballot is Oct. 27.

Nov. 3 is the last day for County Boards of Elections to receive voted mail-in and civilian absentee ballots (must be received by 8 p.m.).

Prayer Shawl time

Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl group is slated to meet from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the church kitchen.

Everyone is asked to wear masks, sanitize hands, practice social distancing and abide by CDC and state guidelines at all events at the church.

No meeting

A reminder that Chestnuthill Supervisors will not be meeting Tuesday nor on Nov. 3. However, the board will meet at 8 a.m. Oct. 26 to pay bills.

Valor meeting

The American Legion Post Home will host the Valor PTSD meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday. For more information, contact Jim Grimm at 516-317-0588.

Laymen’s fellowship

Laymen’s fellowship at St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, will meet in the fellowship hall at 10 a.m. Oct. 21. There will be no refreshments. This will be a devotion and business meeting only. Social distance and masks required.

Blood drives

The Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville, hosts the Keystone-Miller Blood Clinic drive from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 21.

Soup and bake sale

McMichaels UMC is hosting a soup and bake sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 24.

A variety of soups and various desserts will be offered.

Some of the soups, in pints or quarts, include vegetable beef, broccoli cheese, sausage and bean, cream of tomato basil, ham and bean, chicken and rice, and more.

Grilled hot dogs and chips will be available while shopping for soup and various desserts.

Pet parade

The West End Park and Open Space Commission is hosting the annual Pet (Costume) Parade at 11 a.m. on Oct. 24 at the Ross Township Park, 258 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg.

Prizes for the Scariest, Cutest, Most Original, and Pet & Owner Look-a-Like.

Dress up that favorite pet and come have some fun.

Craft & Gift Fair

West End Park and Open Space Commission is hosting a craft and gift fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 31. There will be unique gifts for everyone.

It is held at Chestnuthill Park on Route 715, Brodheadsville. Mask wearing is requested. COVID-19 guidelines are to be followed.

Blues for Valor

On Oct. 31, from noon to 4 p.m. at the West End Fairgrounds there will be a blues benefit featuring live blues by James Supra/Sarah Ayers Band.

The benefit is for the Valor organization, which supports and helps re-establish veterans back into the community with health, living and educational opportunities.

In addition there will be: a military vehicles display; military vendors; food, beer and wine available for purchase; kids dress up for trick or treat path; walk the makeshift Military Mile; etc.

Military/patriotic vendors sought. Organization tables are available for Legions, VFWs, military recruiters, Veterans Assistance groups.

Eldred Township trick or treat will be from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 31.

An annual Veterans Day parade will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Pocono Raceway.
