NL addresses attendance policy for indoor sports

Northern Lehigh School District has addressed its plans related to its attendance policy for indoor sports.

The school board fielded a question submitted by a resident during Monday’s meeting who asked what the attendance policy is going to be for indoor sports, and how the district is going to determine the need for volunteers.

Superintendent Matthew J. Link said the district continues to monitor the situation as it relates to transmission within the county.

“We have our guidance from the governor’s office,” Link said. “The current guidance, as it’s going through appeal, as far as the percentage of the total occupancy that is allowed in buildings and indoor gatherings, that does include the student athletes and the officials, coaches, trainers and administration that would be there as well.”

Link added that he and district Athletic Director Bryan Geist “are in communication almost daily. It’s almost like we touch base four or five times a week on trying to make a decision for the winter sports, and we’re just not there yet.”

Geist agreed with Link’s assessment, adding that, “In discussions with the Colonial League, winter sports have not even come to the forefront.

“We’re still trying to make our way through the fall sports, and also try to determine capacity limits in our indoor venues,” Geist said. “So that’s about where we’re at at this point.”
