A look back: Oct. 14, 2006

Friday the 13th turned out to be a day to celebrate for St. Jerome’s Church in Tamaqua.

The Roman Catholic Church at 266 W. Broad St. held a special Mass of Thanksgiving, which included students from St. Jerome’s Regional School, for the gift of a brand-new carillon bell system.

The Verdin Singing Tower Classic, which can store up to 3,000 hymns in its memory, was obtained by the parish through a $15,000 donation from Ralph and Daniel Cipko.

The Cipko brothers, Lansford natives who reside on Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia, are philanthropists noted for their generosity to the Panther Valley and surrounding areas.
