A look back: Oct. 12, 2007

The transfer of the former Panther Valley Middle School in Lansford to the borough was removed from the agenda of the school board Thursday night after board President David Hiles indicated an Allentown-based realty firm has indicated interest in the property, with the ultimate goal of developing a Rite Aid store at the site.

In July, Lansford Borough Council rejected a $1.25 million offer for a 3-acre parcel of land at a park on the borough’s west end. According to Stefan Cihylik of the Frederick Group, the firm is looking for a new site to build a new and larger Rite Aid store to replace the facility adjacent to Boyer’s Food Market.
