A look back: Oct. 10, 2001

Congressman Paul Kanjorski’s efforts to have a postage stamp issued to honor the contributions that coal miners have made to the nation are gaining support in Washington. The secretary of Labor and fellow members of Congress joined Kanjorski for a news conference today to express their support for the idea.

Kanjorski was joined by U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao, Congressman Bob Ney, Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito and Sen. Mitch McConnell in backing a House resolution in support of the stamp.

Kanjorski said, “America’s coal miners deserve to be recognized for the enormous contributions they gave in helping to make this country what it is today.”
