Ross Twp. moves forward with Halloween events
Ross Township Supervisors discussed Halloween events at their monthly meeting on Monday.
Trick-or-treating will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 31.
“It is at the parents’ discretion. Residents who do not want trick-or-treaters should turn off their front porch light,” said Chairwoman Tina Drake.
The township’s annual Halloween Pet Parade will occur Oct. 24 at 11 a.m. Attendees and their pets are encouraged to come in costume. It will be held at the Ross Township park.
There will be four categories with prizes: Scariest, Cutest, Most Original and Owner Look-Alike. Everyone will parade around the park while the judges watch and take notes.
“I volunteer to be a judge and donate a prize again this year,” said Drake.
In previous years, pets have included dogs, cats, a turtle and chickens.
Bernie Kozen, executive director of West End Park & Open Space Committee, announced a drive-thru trick-or-treat that the organization will co-host with the West End Fire Company on Oct. 31. The event will be held at the fire company from 6 to 8 p.m.

• Supervisors discussed the Nov. 3 Election Eay when the township building is used as a polling place. Vice Chairman David Shay said he would unlock the building at 6 a.m. and Supervisor James Zahoroiko said he would lock it at the end of the night.
• Dave Trout returned for the third month to request assistance from the township for a protective barrier in front of his home.
He told supervisors he will pay for the materials and labor, and he is most concerned about safety in the yard.
He has a barrier and boulders there but wants something much stronger.
He lives near the Blue Ridge Winery, which he says is partly the reason for all the increased traffic on his road. He has been there close to 20 years. His house sits close to the road and the barrier would partly be in the right of way area.
Drake said the township wants to help as much as they can, and a meeting with township engineer Russ Kresge and Associates is the next step.
• Supervisors will hold a budget session at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 9.
• Supervisors asked township secretary Danielle Romano to get price quotes from Scantek and a few other companies which can digitalize their paper municipal records. They also asked her to get quotes on computer hardware upgrades from their IT provider.
• The next supervisors meeting is at 7 p.m. Nov. 2.
