Summit Hill opens trash collecting bids

Bids for trash collection were opened by Summit Hill Borough Council on Monday with three firms giving quotations.

The bids were solicited with numerous options, including one-year contracts, two years, three years, four years, without recycling, with recycling cardboard and paper and with one electronic recycling collection for residents per year.

The lowest bidder was County Waste, a firm which has clients throughout Eastern Pennsylvania and Virginia. The firm’s base bid was $272,700 for one year without recycling.

Tamaqua Transfer, which presently collects the town’s trash, had a one-year base bid of $307,118 without recycling, which is about $700 less than what the town is presently paying the firm with recycling.

Solid Waste Services, aka J.P. Mascaro & Sons, had a base bid without recycling of $485,856 for one year.

The council said it will forward the bids to its solicitor for review and plans to award the contract next month.
