Local Roundup: Results from Sept. 26

Three area girls soccer teams posted recent victories.

Jim Thorpe and Pleasant Valley both posted lopsided shutout wins, while Northern Lehigh edged Wilson.

In boys soccer, Tamaqua defeated Pine Grove.

GIRLS SOCCER

N. Schuylkill-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe received goals from seven different players to register a 7-0 Schuylkill League Division 1 victory over North Schuylkill.

Scoring for the Olympians were Kelli Hogarty, Lexi Marotto, Gabby Cinicola, Kennedy Rider, Aurora VanAuken, Lauren LeKites, and Sarah Hartman. All seven tallies came in the first half.

Thorpe, which improved to 5-3, also received two assists from both Lydia Wallace and Nicole Carroll. Olivia Rosenberger also added a helper.

Kate Bos recorded the shutout in net for the Olympians, who finished with a 25-2 advantage in shots.

Pleasant Valley-PM West

Aurora Cruci had a big game to lead Pleasant Valley to a 10-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pocono Mountain West.

Cruci scored two goals and added three assists for the Bears, who had 32 shots in the contest.

PV (1-0) also received two goals from both Ella Muir and Alexa Weaver. PV’s other tallies came from Teah Cardoza, Larissa Mulligan, Trinity Treulieb and Autumn Castro.

Hailey Klein contributed a pair of assists, while Riley Green added one. Earning the shutout win in goal was Samantha Merklin.

Wilson-Northern Lehigh

Shaina Mazzocca scored two goals to help lift Northern Lehigh to a 3-1 Colonial League victory over Wilson.

The Bulldogs, who finished with a 10-4 edge in shots, also received a tally from Katie Guelcher

Riley Spatzer scored for the Warriors, while Jocelyn Smith assisted on the goal.

Pottsville-Tamaqua

Pottsville jumped out to a big first-half lead and held on to gain a 6-2 Schuylkill League Division 1 win over Tamaqua.

The Crimson Tide received a pair of goals from Alexia Maccarone in the opening half to help her team take a 4-0 advantage. Others who tallied for the winners included Grace Evans, Taylor Cook, Maddy Lenker and Kiera Bolkovich.

Megan Rolko and Terra Steigerwalt both scored for the Blue Raiders in the second half. Rolko and Steigerwalt also assisted on each other’s goals.

Tamaqua keeper Zoe Seltzer made 20 saves in the contest.

BOYS SOCCER

Tamaqua-Pine Grove

Ian Davis scored a pair of goals to help Tamaqua earn a 3-1 Schuylkill League Division 1 victory over Pine Grove.

Mike Shlanta and Davis each scored in the first half as the Blue Raiders took a 2-0 halftime lead.

Davis netted his second of the game in the second half to increase the margin to 3-0, before the Cardinals’ Ethan Hannevig tallied to prevent a shutout.

Zachery Campomizzi contributed a pair of assists, while Tyler Steigerwalt added a helper.

Tamaqua’s keeper Jon Ulieny made seven saves.

Nativity-Weatherly

Weatherly fell to Nativity by a 4-1 score in a Schuylkill League Division 2 contest.

Jonathan Arevalo scored a goal in each half for the winners, who led 2-0 at the break, while Juan Tovar and Cooper Chiplonia also tallied.

The Wreckers’ Jaiden Evangelista, off a feed from Antonio Colecio, found the back of the net in the second half.

Weatherly keeper Frankie Willis had 10 saves.

Northern Lehigh-Wilson

Wilson rolled to an 11-0 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

FIELD HOCKEY

Northwestern-Bangor

Northwestern dropped a narrow 2-1 Colonial League decision to Bangor.

Kaylee Holland and Mylaina Schippers scored goals for the Slaters, who were outshot by the Tigers 7-6.

Northwestern’s only goal came of the stick of Brooke Page, who was assisted by Daniella Lister.

Maxine Hoffman recorded five saves for the Tigers.

No. Lehigh-Moravian Ac.

Nikki Chiaradia scored two goals and added two assists to lead Moravian Academy to an 8-0 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.

The Lions also received a pair of goals from both Phoebe Shane and Rylin Becker, while Amelia Loftus contributed a goal and two assists.

The winners finished with a 23-5 advantage in shots and an 11-4 margin in corners.

VOLLEYBALL

Shenandoah Vy.-Tamaqua

Tamaqua dropped a 25-15, 25-16, 25-14 contest to Shenandoah Valley.

The Blue Raiders received three kills, an ace and a block from Leah Mateyak.

Shenandoah also took the JV match in two sets.
