Palmerton Borough Council took the following action on Thursday:
• Per the recommendation of council President Terry Costenbader, agreed to utilize portions of Community Development Block Grant funds from two separate allocation years for the Railroad Alley project.
• Accepted the resignation of William Gallagher from the borough’s planning commission due to his recent appointment as borough mayor. Council will accept letters of interest for the planning commission until Oct. 16.
• Agreed to hire Keith Seltzer at the rate of $10.08 per hour, and Jude Petrycia at the rate of $9.79 per hour, for leaf collection.
• Adopted an ordinance prohibiting parking in four different areas as follows: No parking from Fifth Street west on Delaware Avenue for 55 feet (two spots in front of the Chinese restaurant); no parking on the east side of Walnut Street from Mauch Chunk Road to Edgemont Avenue; no parking on the east side of Linden Street from Princeton Avenue to Edgemont Avenue; and no parking on the north side of Princeton Avenue from Edgemont Avenue south and west for 410 feet.
• Announced that the borough is still seeking candidates to fill its emergency management coordinator position.
• Approved an agreement with Hamer Enterprises for online payment options.
