Parryville appoints new mayor

Parryville’s Borough Council unanimously accepted Tom Kobal’s bid for mayor. He was unopposed.

Kobal will replace Kevin “Greenie” Greenzweig, who stepped down due “to declining health and the health of (his) parents.” Kobal will be sworn into service at a future date.

Vice President Sharon Hinkle resigned from the board, and council President Cathy Hawk thanked her for “her longtime dedication, service and commitment to the residents of Parryville.”

Hawk and Code Enforcement Officer Marty Sowers, walked the entire borough of Parryville and noted 46 code violations on the 200 properties. Some residents corrected violations on the spot, but all remaining violations will be addressed in a letter of concern that provides 30 days for residents to establish plans for correcting the issues.

Hawk said, “There are some issues that will require more than 30 days to fix,” and the borough is willing to work with residents to help them be compliant.

Residents are encouraged to communicate their plans to the borough council if 30 days is not enough time to correct issues. Hawk and Sowers took pictures, and will return to inspect violations after 30 days.

Council approved an allocation of $2,000 to be used to host cloud services for security cameras being installed at the playground. Signs will be placed in the playground once the cameras are installed later this month.

Fundraisers for the Parryville Fire Department include a chicken bowl dinner on Oct. 10 from 4-7 p.m., a veterans spaghetti dinner on Nov. 7 from 4-7 p.m. where veterans pay half price, and a filling and pumpkin sale. Orders are due on Nov. 19 and will be delivered Nov. 23.
